The main function of the Public International Law Department is to:

  • Provide and coordinate international co-operation of the Ministry;

  • Participate in defining the policy of legal cooperation with foreign countries and the international organizations;

  • Provide cooperation with foreign State bodies and the international organizations;

  • Decide upon the matter of participation of Georgia in international Treaties, prepare International treaties, coordinate fulfilment of international commitments undertaken by the international treaties, or consider the matter of termination or suspension of a treaty.


    The competence of the department also includes:

  • Support harmonization of Georgian legislation with International and European legislation;

  • Elaborate proposals under the Ministry’s competence concerning European Integration issues, prepare legal conclusions on documents to be discussed during the CIS sessions;

  • Provide cooperation with the International Criminal Court; render legal assistance to, natural and legal persons of foreign states in civil, family and criminal matters pursuant to the International treaties of Georgia and the domestic legislation.

    The Units under supervision of the Department:


 

The Ministry of Justice of Georgia cooperates with the International Donor Organizations. The Ministry of Justice of Georgia concluded cooperation agreements and memoranda on mutual understanding with a number of Countries:

Namely:

 

  • Joint projects of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and the International Donor Organizations;

  • Memorandum of mutual understanding between the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and the Ministry of Justice of Latvia;

  • Agreement on cooperation between the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan;

  • Agreement on cooperation between the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and the Ministry of Justice of Romania;

  • Agreement between The Ministry of Justice of Georgia and the Ministry of Justice of Armenia on cooperation in the sphere of forensic expertise;

  • Agreement between The Ministry of Justice of Georgia and the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan on cooperation in the sphere of forensic expertise;

  • Agreement on cooperation between The Ministry of Justice of Georgia and the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan;

  • Agreement between The Ministry of Justice of Georgia and the Ministry of Justice of Kazakhstan on cooperation in the sphere of forensic expertise.

  • Agreement on cooperation between the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and the Ministry of Justice of Kazakhstan;

  • Agreement on cooperation between the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and the Ministry of Justice of Kyrgyzstan;

  • Agreement between the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan on cooperation in the sphere of forensic expertise;

  • Agreement on cooperation between the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and the Ministry of Justice of Armenia;

  • Protocol between the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and the Ministry of Justice of Turkey on cooperation.
