Over 400 000 ID Cards were Issued in the Course of One Year
A year passed since the issuance of ID cards started in Georgia, on August 1. According to the State Services Development Agency, 424 464 citizens express their desire to receive ID cards hitherto, among them are 22 513 Students.
On August 1, Head of the State Services Development Agency, Mr. Giorgi Gabrielashvili presented statistics of issuing ID cards at the Gurjaani Public Service Hall and granted gift sets to three young who expressed their desire to receive electronic identity cards.
According to Mr. Giorgi Gabrielashvili, ID card is a high-tech identification document, maximally safe from falsification. A number of benefits are offered while issuing the document: ID card is issued free of charge for Socially Excluded Family members with no more than 70 001 points; for students, participants of the World War II, Georgian citizens become disabled as a result of fighting for territorial integrity, persons who have been granted Georgian citizenship on the initiative of the President of Georgia.
Functions of ID card: Since December 10, 2011, citizens can cross a border on the customs exit point in Sarpi with the bilingual electronic ID card that corresponds to the international standards. Through this document, citizens can view their personal information on the webpage of the Public Service Hall (www.my.gov.ge), change a place of registration remotely, receive information about the number of persons registered to the one address, etc. without leaving homes.
ID card is the same as a Student card, issuing of which has begun since June 12. The card contains information about the student, as a result of which the students can receive various discounts from both public and private sectors.
If a student receives the card for the first time, the document will be issued free of charge on the tenth workday after submission of the application. In case, a student already has ID card, he/she will apply to the Public Service Halls or Territorial offices of the State Services Development Agency where information about the student will be put on the card within seven days free of cost. In this case, a word "Student" will be visually represented on the cover of a student's ID card.
Students can benefit from special privileges since July 1. According to a new project, the State Services Development Agency offers them reduced prices in different services. Students have 5% discounts in receiving passports, and 10% discounts when using all other services of the Civil Registry Agency.
